The main objectives of the Network are as follows:

- To raise the profile (within Northern Ireland and throughout other regions of the British Isles) of the regeneration work undertaken through the Fishing Villages Programme;

- To learn from each other's experiences of rural and community development;

- To foster links with other similar regions throughout the British Isles;

- To work together to develop and implement ongoing regeneration strategies for each of the villages in the context of formulating a unified product for Co. Down's fishing dependent villages; and

- To develop an integrated tourism strategy, based on the region's maritime heritage and its natural and man-made tourism resources.
